400 Years
In May 1611 the King James Version of the bible was completed and began to be printed. This year marks 400 years that the King James Bible has been printed. It is the most printed book ever. It has blest millions of people through the centuries. The Bible is still a number one best selling book year after year. There have been many revision and changes in spelling through the past 400 years, but it is still the same fundamental translation into English as it came out 400 years ago. It is a good sound reliable translation that millions still use today. Yes for some the thee's and the thou's are hard to get used to, and there are some flaws that are there, (though they can be weeded out), it is great translation that is reliable and trustworthy. About 40 scholars worked on creating the King James translation. They used italics to supply words they felt are needed to give the thought, but we can know this because of the italized words used in the KJV. Unlike some of the one man paraphrases, we don't know if what you read is commentary or translation. I think back of history, when the masses did not have the bible in their own language. They had to rely on the "clergy" to read and explain everything. Thank God in his providence we had men who worked and sacrificed to give us a faithful translation in our own vernacular. I think about what Peter said, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you." 1 Pet.1:23-25. Thanks be to God for the precious gift of his word in a language we can read and understand.
