Facebook Depression
I heard a new phrase the other day, "Facebook Depression." Facebook is an Internet social site that interconnects friends around the world on the world wide web. There a lot of good things I like about it, it gives you a chance to connect with people you may not have seen for a long time, chat, send messages, or look at photos. It is good about sharing news of events that are happening, like our gospel meetings, our Vacation Bible Schools, our Summer Singing. Or to share news about sicknesses, distresses, deaths that have befallen our brethren or friends. It can be a forum in teaching others the truth. You can use it to encourage others who may be having a tough time. So lots of good things can be done using Facebook. But as with most things in this world, it can also be used for evil, and bad things can come from a misuse of the website. I hear divorce lawyers like the website, for lots of evidence can be gathered in a divorce proceeding. Many affairs have started in Facebook. Also some young people who feel that they have been slighted, left out of social events, can see who was at an event with photos, comments and such. Thus they begin to suffer from what is now called "Facebook Depression." Some people may feel inferior and become discouraged when they see others having more friends in their Facebook account or get more birthday greetings on their birthday. These are the kinds of things that can affect a young person's mind, attitude, disposition, and create this problem called "Facebook Depression." But if we are right in the sight of the Lord, that is what most important, and we can put these other areas in perspective and not get all depressed about it. "So we can confidently say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?" Heb.13:6.
