Starter Marriage
I heard this phrase: "Starter Marriage" the other day on the radio. The idea is that you like when you get a starter home, it is just to get you started and in the future you will move up to bigger and better. Or getting a starter car, an older used car which is all you can afford and you plan learn how to drive good and later on when you can afford it you will buy a nicer car. A starter marriage is the thought you don't really plan to be with this woman or this man the rest of your life, you are just getting started in a relationship with a spouse. For in our society spouses are fairly easily gotten shed of, so you can move on to better things if you so deem it to be so by whim and desire. But God never intended that to be the view of marriage. Listen to Jesus in Matt.19:4-6, "Have ye not read, that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh? So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Jesus is showing us that marriage was intended to be a permanent relationship here on earth. Marriage should be entered with this thought in mind, till death do us part. When folks are influenced by this kind of thinking about matrimony, that it will be a "Starter Marriage" no wonder so many of marriages are failing in our country. Marriage is a God ordained institution, that the Lord wants us to enter into with soberness, dedication, commitment, and resolve that I am planning for this person to be my partner for life. May we have this noble attitude about matrimony, "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, but fornicators and adulterers God will judge." A "Starter Marriage"mentality does hold matrimony in it's proper honor.
