3 Great Questions of Life
We would like to look at Paul's sermon on Mars Hill in Athens, as recorded in Ac.17:22-34. In this outstanding sermon Paul answers the 3 great questions of life. Where Did We Come From? - Paul addresses the first question about origins. In vs. 24-26, "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation." So where did we come from? God made us! We were created by an intelligent God, who made not only us, but heaven and earth also, Genesis 1:1. We did NOT come from some slime pit, evolving from an amoebae, by blind chance and dumb luck as evolution teaches. Why Are We Here? - Paul answers the second question about the purpose of life. In vs. 27-28, "That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." We should seek the Lord for he is our maker. Solomon made a momentous study of life, seeing the purpose for our existence. His findings? Eccl.12:13, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Are you seeking the Lord and his righteousness? Where Are We Going?- Paul answers the question about the destiny of man. In vs.30-31, "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead." All mankind is heading for the judgment day. What is the assurance that we will be raised from the dead and face God in judgment? Jesus, himself, being raised from the dead. There is no escape from this appointment! This is why we must heed the command of God to repent. What will be your destiny, my friend?
