Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven!

In Matthew 6:10 Jesus prayed this prayer, exactly what was he praying for? Let’s examine this verse in a little more detail. Jesus was teaching his disciples how to pray and what to pray for. So, Jesus wanted the world to see what Gods will is. He lived a life that showed the power of God working in him and through him. His ministry was all about serving his heavenly Father.

There is a surrendering of His own will to the will of his heavenly father’s will. Jesus was all about doing what pleased God. Sometimes we will say in a prayer, if it be your will, when we say that we are putting our trust in the Lord. People have trouble trusting other people but should never have trouble trusting God. A complete surrendering of our will to God requires complete trust in the fact that God knows best. If I don’t trust God, then I won’t be able to except his will.

Gods will is revealed unto us throughout the scriptures for example in Matt. 16:16 when Christ ask Peter who do you say that I am. Peter responded and said Thou art the Christ the son of the living God, And Christ said I say unto you thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The rock he is referring to of course is Peters acknowledgement that Christ was the son of God.

Matthew 26: 39-42 tells us, And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

We see in the scriptures that Jesus surrendered to doing God’s will, likewise we must  also surrender our will to do Jesus’s will.
