What is your soul worth?
Do you ever think about what a soul is worth? That’s what I would like to discuss in this column, today. Most of us give some consideration to the value of things in this life. We go to great links to protect assets such money, land, precious heirlooms. We also are diligent in trying to care for the health of our physical bodies, certainly there is good reason for guarding these. But in the big picture all of these are temporal in their nature.
Mark 8:35-36 tells us, For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. V 36 For what shall it profit man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? The point Jesus is making to his disciples is that soul has eternal value this world and everything in it is temporal. 2 Peter 3:10 says, But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; and the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. V 11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conversation and Godliness V 12 Looking for and hasting unto the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved and the elements shall melt with fervent heat! V 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, where in dwelleth righteous ness. V 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
If someone were to ask you, what would you take for your soul? What would your answer be? Could you place a dollar amount on your soul, probably not. But so many times people will gamble with their soul for a few minutes of pleasure, for a fist full of dollars, for a little power or control. How sad to trade that which is eternal to that which is temporal!
