The Means to Your Dreams
One time while in Canada, Chuck and I stopped in the bank, he had some business to take care of. I was looking at this sign about getting a loan and it had the above phrase on the poster board. (Of course the sales pitch is, come in and borrow money for that dream house, dream boat, dream car, whatever it might be.) I pondered about that phrase and saw some spiritual applications for us to consider.
We dream about great things like a clean conscience, peace of heart and mind, a glorified body, an eternal home in heaven, being with all the redeemed, beholding God the Father on the throne, to see the Jesus face to face. We sometimes sing the song, "Sing to me of heaven, let me fondly dream..." These are all great dreams to have and through the gospel we have the means to these dreams.
Jesus dying on the cross makes all the spiritual blessings possible both in the life that now is, and that which is to come. "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus." Eph. 2:4-8. If it were not for God’s grace being manifested in the giving of his Son, we would not have the means for any of the things that we dream and hope for. We would be hopelessly lost in sin and doomed for hell. But thank God Almighty for his marvelous grace that makes it possible for us not only to dream about great things in the Lord, but to realize them both now and in eternity. I would hope that our eyes might be enlightened in the truth, so we could see these great thoughts. Paul prayed: "The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power." Eph.1:18-19.
