A Pill for Every Ill
I was watching the morning news this past week and they had a segment about how that many Americans are taking too many prescription pills. The comment was made, that we have AA pill for every ill that we face. The observation by the guest on the program was, that instead of getting a pill, why not seek to find out what is causing some of these problems and see if they can be remedied without a pill.
I was thinking about a spiritual application of this idea, AA pill for every ill. We have a spiritual APill for every ill@ it's called the AGos-pill@. Whatever our spiritual problems are, we have the instructions in the AGos-pill of Christ to give us the remedy. Examples of what we are talking about:
1. The problem of worry. Jesus our great physician, addresses this problem head on in Matt.6:25-34. Listen, ATherefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?Vs.25-26 NRSV. Yes, let us swallow down this AGos-pill solution and live in faith, seeking the kingdom of God first, Matt.6:33.
2. The problem of anger. Consider what Paul said in Eph.4:26-27, ABe ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. If we will take the AGos-pill@ solution, to out of control anger, we shall do ourselves a big favor. So often we only hurt ourselves.
3. The problem of enemies. As we go through life, some folks for one reason or another will get it in for you. Jesus teaches us how to handle our enemies. ABut I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matt.5:44. If we are busy loving, blessing, praying for those who hate us, we will not give into hatred and malice. These are very self-destructive attitudes. Again we see the AGos-pill solution.
