The King of Kings
In Rev.17:14 we read, "These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful." May we begin study about King Jesus.
The King Is Prophesied
It was prophesied throughout the Old Testament that this King was to come, Gen.49:10, 2 Sam.7:12-17, Is.9:6, Jer.23:2-6, Dan.2:44 etc. Notice Zec.6:12-13 "And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both." May we specifically note about this text, that Jesus would be "priest upon his throne." If Jesus is not King now, sitting upon his throne now, then he is not priest now! And if he is not priest now, then his work as high priest, which involves redemption is not in effect now! You see the consequences of erroneous doctrine? It is blaspheme to say that Jesus is not ruling in his kingdom now, but that he is going to in the so called future millennium reign of Christ.
The King Is Born
Now let’s notice that the King is Born. In Luke 1: 26-35 the angel Gabriel speaks to Mary about the child she would have. In vs.. 32-33 we read, "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end." Nine months latter in Luke 2:1-20 we see that Jesus is born, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
The King is Crucified
After living here on earth for approximately 33 years, the last three years involved extensive teaching and preaching, the King is crucified. In John 18:1ff we read about Jesus being betrayed and being on trial. Then in John 19:14-19, we read, "And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS." After hanging several hours on the cross the King is dead!
The King is Risen
Yet as Jesus had foretold his disciples, he would rise again from the dead the third day, Mt.20:19, "And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again." Early that Sunday morning the first day of the week, Matt.28:1ff, the King is raised from the dead, the King is alive! In Matthew 28:5-6 we read, "And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
The King is Coroneted
After Jesus was crucified, buried, and resurrected the third day; he showed himself to the disciples with many infallible proofs for 40 days, Acts 1:3. Then he ascended into heaven as we read about in, Acts 1:9 "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight." Daniel spake of his coronation as king in Daniel 7:13-14 "I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Notice that it says he "came to the Ancient of days" not from the Ancient of days. And when he returned to the Ancient of days he was given dominion, and glory, and a kingdom. The King was crowned!
The King is Still Reigning
The King has been reigning since his ascension back to heaven. We continue to proclaim this throughout the world, that men and women need to submit to this King, in order that they may be blest by his goodness and power. Notice what Paul said of the Colossian brethren, Colossians 1:12, "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins." Of course this passage contradicts the premillienal theory that Jesus is yet to reign here upon the earth in his kingdom, that the kingdom is yet to be established. Have you entered into the kingdom of God yet?
The King is Coming
Now let's noticed what the scriptures says about that the King is coming! In Matthew 25:31-34 we read, "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:" Indeed, when the King comes, he will not come in humility as when he came the first time; no our text says that he will come in his glory, and that he will be sitting upon his throne of glory. Now this gathering together of all nations will necessitate the resurrection of all mankind. Notice over in John 5:28-29, Jesus said, "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." For the sheep who have submitted to the King of Kings, Jesus made that great statement "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." And to the stubborn goats he will say, "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" vs.41. Yes indeed, the coming of the King, Jesus Christ, the second time will be an awesome, and magnificent event. Now the question is, have you submitted to this King? Or do you continue to rebel against him? God gives us the power of choice, "choose you this day whom ye will serve." What choice are you making about this King?
