Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono
While in Hawaii recently I was reading in some of the literature I had picked up, the above statement, which is in the Hawaiian language. It is in their state motto, and is inscribed on the new Hawaiian state quarter. It means "The life of the land is perpetuated by righteousness." Now I find that very interesting, for the wise man in the book of Proverbs says it this way, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." Prov.14:34. The state motto of Hawaii is exactly what should be goal of every state, and in fact every country and place in the world. Far be it that the folks of Hawaii are a perfect people. There was plenty of sin evident around the island, I saw personally and what I saw that was in the news. Nations or lands will prosper under a people that in general seek after righteousness. There will less crime, folks will be able to live and work peaceably. Folks can seek after God in a society that has tranquility and peace. The work ethic will be taught and followed. Look at what happen to the Roman empire, they rotten within and collapsed. Sin can bring down any people. Ps.9:17, "The wicked shall be turned back unto Sheol, Even all the nations that forget God. " Where are the nations of history that have been corrupt and rotten? They have turn into Sheol, that is, they realm of the unseen, thus these nations are no more seen, only in history books and some relics and ruins in a museum somewhere. Yes, the best way to be patriotic to our nation is by being a faithful Christian, seeking after right living. "Righteousness exalteth a nation" or as the motto of Hawaii states, "The life of the land is perpetuated by righteousness." Are you trying to live a good life in following the Lord and his righteousness? "Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono"
