The Exalted Christ
In Heb.1:3 we read, "He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." (ESV). The Hebrew writer is giving an exalted view of Jesus in this text. Jesus has the radiance of the glory of God. In fact, at his transfiguration his radiance was a least in part revealed. "And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light." Matt.17:2. Jesus shared the divine radiance, for he is indeed part of the eternal Godhead. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God." John 1:1-2. Jesus is the exact imprint of God. Just as you would take a leather die, and make a mark in the leather, the die and the imprint are a perfect match. Jesus is the exact, not real similar, but that unequivocal imprint of the nature of God the Father. Jesus upholds the universe by his power, he speaks and it is done. That is comforting to know that Jesus is in control of our world. I hear over and over about global warming, or the other day, now a possible coming ice age, but the promise of God is clear. "While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease." Gen.8:22. I am so glad that Jesus is in control of the universe and our world. I don’t have to worry about the planet over warming or getting too cold, Jesus holds it in his power. He has made the purification for sin, once and for all, he shed his blood for my sins, and I can be clean and pure. He is reigning at the right of God in heaven. His Lordship is very comforting to all who submit unto him, and fearful for those who rebel. Are you ready for the judgment?
