What I Like About...
I received a book one time with the title, "What I Like About ..." then with the following names an the cover, The Lutherans The Baptists, The Methodists, The Charismatics The Catholics, Our Jewish Friends, The Adventists, Rescuers of Neglected Truth. The author seeks to commend things among these various groups that he could endorse. Now I don't have any personal ill will towards the people of these various groups, but in every one of these religious bodies I have several things "I Don't Like About" their doctrines and teachings. Let me point out a few.
First, when we talk about "Our Jewish Friends", the main problem with them, is that they reject Jesus as the promised Messiah. Thus there is no way they can be saved with such a disposition, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me." We see that only through Christ can we get to heaven. Jesus told the Jews in the 1st century that they would die in their sins and could not go where he was going, Jn.8:21-24. The Charismatics are in grave error concerning the miraculous gifts, and the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of disciples. The age of miracles ended in the first century when the word of God was completely revealed and confirmed, 1 Cor.13:8-13
The Methodists and the Lutherans, and The Baptists are all in error on the plan of Salvation. They all pretty much believe in the doctrine of justification of faith only. The word of God on the contrary says that man is NOT justified by faith only. "Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith." James 2:24. I think I will accept the Bible instead of the teachings of men. There is no reason why they could not either!
The Adventists are also in error on several points. For instance they teach that the Sabbath day is still binding on people today, yet the Law was done away and was nailed to the cross, Col.2:14, Rm.7:1-4. They also seek to bind the dietary laws of the Mosaic law on people today, see above verses, and I Tim.4:3-5.
Let me state what I do like, the word of God, without addition, subtraction, or substitution, for only the truth of Jesus will save.
