Open Marriage
I saw a segment on the TV program 20/20 about an astounding practice called "Open Marriage." They were interviewing two different couples that were practicing "Open Marriage" which is that both spouses are free to date and have sexually encounters with other partners. When asked about if they thoughts this was adultery they didn't think so because they were open and free in making these choices. The children in the family were knowledgeable to the fact that mommy and daddy have other "good" friends that they go see. You have to be dumbfounded at the absurdity that people come up with in living life these days. You wonder how they deal with the biblical injunctions against adultery, such as Heb.13:4, "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." Or when God says, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" Rom.13:9. But when you have people in the world who are not guided by the law of God, all kinds of crazy things happen in society. The Hebrew writer clearly warns about what God will do with those that violate his laws on the matter,"God will judge." I think they have a misnomer here calling it "Open Marriage" it should be called "Open Adultery." Most adultery is committed in secret, behind the back of the one's spouse, slipping around trying not to be found out or get caught. In this situation, they are all open and consenting to the adultery that is taking place. Both husband and wife openly, not secretly are committing adultery and are in fact friends that help each other with the kids in the family. I am reminded of what Isaiah said, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" What a mixed up world we live in at times.
