Evangelizing
In Acts 8:3-4 we read, "But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison. Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word." God was allowing things to happen to help spread the message of the gospel. They had been focusing in the Jerusalem area, since Acts 2. Now this persecution caused the brethren to be spread abroad and they were preaching the word. The word used in vs.4 that is translated "preaching the word" comes from a new testament word "euaggelizo" which you can see is where we get our word "evangelize." The first century word means, "To announce good news ("evangelize") especially the gospel . . . to proclaim glad tidings" Thus the meaning of evangelism is teaching or the spreading of the word of God to those lost and undone in sin. The word "euaggelizo" or "evangelize" is found 52 times in the New Testament. Notice our text says the saints in Jerusalem was going everywhere to preach the word. The same responsibility befalls us to announce the good news to our fellow men in our society that is blacken the stain of sin. The good news to announce is the wonderful Savior, Jesus the divine Son of God, who died, was buried, and arose from the dead. We can declare that through Him and His shed blood we can now be forgiven of our sins. Jesus is the only way to God, John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me." We cannot get to heaven, by Mohamad, Judaism, Buddhism, Masonic Lodge, or any other man or organization built by men and human wisdom. Jesus is the way and He is offered to everyone who will hear the good news, believe Him and submit to his will. Let us evangelize the world that is lost and undone in sin, beloved!
