Toast
Chris Craig was relating a conversation he had with Jacob Cook (who is 9 years old) the other day. Jacob was talking about maybe leading a song some day when he got older. Then Jacob went on to say, "Maybe someday I would preach a sermon, when Mr. Danny is gone, you know, when he is toast." From the mouth of babes, yes someday I will be "toast" a concept meaning when I am dead. Yes, I will be "toast" someday, it is a divine appointment. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Heb.9:27. I don't know if it will be soon or far off, but it will happen. The Rich Fool of Luke 12:16-21 thought he had many years left in his life, to enjoy the fruits of his labor, "But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." vs.20-21. Sometimes we think we have a "Lease on Life" but death may be just around the corner for any of us, we can be "toast" any day of the week. David said it this way in 1 Sam. 20:3 (KJV) "And David swore moreover, and said, Thy father knoweth well that I have found favor in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death." Just a step between me and death, which is to say we can be "toast" on any given day of the week. Makes no difference if you are old or young, death happens at ALL ages. Finally, consider the words of the wise man in Prov.27:1, "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." Yes, we can be "toast" at any time. The solution is just be ready for that day when it does come, and come it will, and we will be "toast."
