"Lazy Loafers"
I was listening to the radio one time in the car, and heard a man preaching. He used an interesting phrase, for he spoke about folks he called "Lazy Loafers." Now we can be lazy and slothful in a couple of different areas of life, let's look at them.
First, we can be lazy about work and labor in the physical activities of life. God desires and commands that we work for our living. "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." Eph.4:28. Paul also talked about working in 2Thess.3:10-12, "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread." Paul also gave the solution to laziness, don't let him eat! I think this concept will work if we discharge the message.
Secondly, we can be lazy and slothful in spiritual work. In the parable of the talents we read about the one talent man. He was not lost because he was less talented, but because he was a "Lazy Loafer" in the vineyard of the Lord. "His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strowed . . . And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matt.25:26,30. The Lord needs workers not shirkers in his kingdom! The Lord frowns upon the lazy who will not work in the physical realm, but he also frowns upon the "Lazy Loafers" in the spiritual realm. Let us be diligent, industrious, hard-working, energetic in our labor for the Lord, both in the secular realm, and in the spiritual realm.
