What is Fellowship and why is it important?

Fellowship is defined as having a frieWhat is Fellowship and why is it important?ndly association with those who have the same interest. We often engage in fellowship without even recognizing that we are doing so. This is true because there are a lot of different types of fellowships. For example, two farmers in a community might run into one another at a local business and stand and talk about farming for a while. Sometimes two women that are homemakers, may bump into each at the local grocery store and discuss with each other what they’ve got going on in their lives. Our schools may have a function where a lot of people will come together for an event and the parents will have a lot of the same interest and they just start fellowshipping without even thinking about it. Also, there are planed occasions of fellowship, fall festivals come to mind, and holiday gatherings.

The fellowship I want to zero in on is Christian fellowship. Many of the above examples I have given have no or very little perimeters and they sort of just happen.

We understand the bible has called us into fellowship with God and his son Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:9 tells us, “God is faithful, by whom you are called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Being able to be in fellowship with God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ is the ultimate privilege. The bible also teaches that when we come into that fellowship, we also come into fellowship with those who have already accepted God’s gift of salvation.  In Acts 2:41-47, “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42And they continued steadfastly and the apostle’s doctrine and fellowship, and breaking bread, and prayers. 43And fear came upon ever soul: and many signs and wonders done by the apostles. 44And all that believed and had all things common; 45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them unto all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with singleness of heart. 47Praising God, having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

When we worship God, we come into spiritual fellowship with each other this is to exalt God and to edify us.

In 1 Corinthians 14:40 Paul says let all things be done decently and in order.
