Have you ever been referred to as a Jesus Freak?
In a world of extremes, it seems like this statement is one that is not talked about a lot. I can remember when I was young and occasionally hearing this term as it was in reference to a Christian that wanted to talk about their salvation. I am reminded of what the Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16-19, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to Jew first and to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it written, the just shall live by faith. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. Paul is giving reference here to those who try to suppress the truth of God and make it something it is not. The reason people often avoid the gospel and those that live and teach it, is revealed in the next couple of verses. 19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it unto them.”
The truth hurts because it is the truth, and it is the final authority of God. I fear that in this present time that we live in there is a blatant disregard for any type of authority! When you talk to people about an absolute source of authority, they don’t want to hear it! The reason why is revealed in verse 20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead: so that they are without excuse:” I want us to really focus on this verse. What Paul is telling us is that God has revealed his word unto all of humanity, so there is no excuse for people who live outside of the will of God.
Romans 1:21 tells us, “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beast, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” Finally in Acts 17:30, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandant all men everywhere to repent.” Folks the need for some Jesus Freaks may be greater than it’s ever been before! Don’t be afraid to tell people about Jesus!
