Let Love Motivate Us to Seek Unity!
Gods people were commanded in the old and New Testament to love one another, a commandment is not a suggestion. In Matt VS 36-40 The question was asked, which is the great commandment in the law? VS 37 Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and all thy mind. VS 38 This is the first and great commandment. VS 39 And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. VS 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
One of the things that really hurts the credibility of a Church is the lack of love among the Church members. Jesus prayed in John 17:21-23 That they all may be one; as thou Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast me. VS 22 And the glory which thou gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one; VS23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and the world may know that thou hast sent me, and have loved them, as thou hast love me.
This scripture clearly indicates that Christ’s mission for his church was to cause the world to believe. If the Church is what God intended for it to be, there must be love among the members. We can rest assured that if there is love in the church, people will want to be a part of it.
John 15:17 says, These things I command you, that you may love one another. Ephesians 4: 2-3 Says walk worthy of our calling, with all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
