Rest for the Weary
We read in Isaiah. 40:29-31, He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.
Isiah is well-known because it is well-loved. It is loved because it because we are all familiar with so many weary people who traveled a weary road. At times all of us have been weary making us exhausted. Over the duration of time, we can become discouraged. We all need to remember; this is one of the works of the devil.
First, we must wait on the Lord. Waiting on the Lord includes faith, trust, patience and hope. This hope is brought to those who wait with patience. To wait on the Lord is to believe His Word; stand on His Promises; Desire His Will; to hope in His Faithfulness.
Secondly, those who have exhausted their strength will need to have it renewed. Isaiah tells us in vs 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall. There is a limit to all human endurance. Exhaustion can cause any one of us to stumble. In weariness we fall. To make us strong we must seek the Word of God.
We are asked in Isaiah 40:21,28
Vs 21 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
VS28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
These are questions aimed at reminding us of the things we have always known about God. He is the all-powerful Creator; He raises and dethrones world rulers; He knows all about every one of us. He knows everything we face, and He cares. So, when we grow weary with this old world take time to read Is. 40:28-29, He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
