Accountability, why is it important?
In our society, often it seems like people are not being held accountable. What use to be unacceptable in the past is now the normal. How does a society digress? If someone were to ask you that question, what would your answer be?
You see God was the original standard setter for what is acceptable and what is not. Today we live in a society wereanything goes, what happens? In Judges 21:25 we read, In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes. We recently have seen this mentality of thinking at work, in the lawlessness of people stealing and looting in stores all over the world. Many businesses are having to close stores in certain cities because they simply cannot operate and make a profit. So, in many cases honest hard-working people who need those stores are losing the benefits of having them because of thieves. Will that become acceptable to a society? Looks like it will.
That’s just one thing that God warns against, think of abortion. Proverbs 16:16-19 says, there are six things God hates, seven that are detestable to him. VS 17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood. VS 18 A heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, VS 19 A false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. What about sexually immorality?Romans 1:21 tells us, Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. VS28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.
V S 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, VS 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters ,Inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, VS 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: VS 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure and them that do them.
Does any of this sound familiar? When there is no standard of God applied this is what you have!
Let us pray fervently that the standard of God be put back into the world.
